- Real good question, I haven't found the answer in my reading about
- windows 4.0, and hope someone else has. Perhaps WFW 3.11 is an
- indication - SYSTEM.INI loads the real mode drivers, not CONFIG.SYS,
- but I don't know where this leaves AUTOEXEC.BAT stuff like WINPKT.COM.
- It does seem clear that "real mode" anything is "undesirable" in the
- very near future. Projections in the mags are that new pc's will be
- shipping with Windows 4.0 preinstalled in 1995 (about 10 million of
- them), and that DOS 7.0 will be the LAST release of DOS. On the other
- hand, the apps I've tried with TCP/IP-32 beta seem to work fine, so who
- cares whether its this way or through a packet driver. Actually, this beta
- seems a lot less buggy than some <unnamed> commercial "final" releases.
